Running an infection control regular meeting is an effective way to develop and improve the communication between the infection control team and clinical units. This paper introduces the infection control regular monthly meeting which is held in the last week of each month in a newly-opened branch hospital of a university teaching hospital in China. Through collecting the issues for discussion beforehand, feeding back the surveillance data of last month including nosocomial infection, hand hygiene, multidrug-resistant organisms, occupational exposure, and medical waste, discussing the current infection control issues from each ward and trying to solve them together, and delivering and sharing new knowledge, skills, and information in terms of infection control, the monthly meeting achieves remarkable successes in the aspects of promoting the hospital infection control-related cultural construction, enhancing the supervision and implementation of infection control measures, and running new projects on hospital infection management, etc. Infection control regular monthly meeting builds up a study and work platform, promotes the multidisciplinary and multi-department communication and collaboration, and improves the quality of infection control eventually.

ObjectiveVideo electroencephalography (VEEG) monitoring for health education of elderly patients based on a process-based communication model, and explore the impact of this model on the success rate, negative emotions, nursing satisfaction, and active cooperation rate of such patients.MethodsFrom September 2017 to September 2019, 118 patients with suspected epilepsy, encephalitis and other diseases who required VEEG monitoring in Suining Central Hospital were selected for this study (patients aged 61 to 73 years; 54 males and 64 females). Patients were divided into 2 groups using a random number table method, 59 patients in each group.A group received routine nursing, and B group received health education based on the process communication model. The monitoring success rate, negative emotion, active cooperation rate, and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups.ResultsThe total effective rate in the B group was 86.44%, which was significantly higher than 76.27% in the A group (P<0.05). After nursing intervention, the scores of anxiety and depression in the two groups were significantly decreased, but the decline was greater in the B group (P<0.05). The active cooperation rate and nursing satisfaction of the B group were significantly higher than those of the A group (P<0.05).ConclusionCompared with conventional nursing, health education based on process communication mode can significantly improve the success rate of VEEG monitoring in elderly patients, alleviate the negative emotions of patients, improve the active cooperation rate and nursing satisfaction.
ObjectiveTo explore the current status of treatment adherence in patients with chronic kidney disease without dialysis and to analyze its influencing factors.MethodsThe patients who visited the Outpatient Department of Nephrology of West China Hospital of Sichuan University from September to December 2020 were taken as the research objects. Self-designed general information questionnaire, treatment adherence questionnaire, physician-patient communication satisfaction, health information seeking behavior questionnaire, and physician-patient concordance questionnaire were used to investigate, and path analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of treatment adherence.ResultsA total of 203 valid questionnaires were obtained. Treatment adherence score was (21.69±2.42) points, self-reported health status was (2.48±0.91) points, physician-patient concordance was (20.39±2.70) points, physician-patient communication satisfaction was (67.73±5.52) points, and health information seeking behavior was (13.17±2.65) points. Health information seeking behavior (r=0.214, P=0.002), physicians-patient concordance (r=0.494, P<0.001), physician-patient communication satisfaction (r=0.229, P=0.001) were positively correlated with treatment adherence. Self-reported health status was negatively correlated with treatment adherence (r=−0.225, P=0.001). Path analysis showed that physicians-patient concordance was the most influencing factor of treatment adherence (total effect=0.474).ConclusionHealth information-seeking behavior and physicians-patient concordance are important factors affecting treatment adherence in chronic kidney disease patients without dialysis. In order to improve treatment adherence of chronic kidney disease patients, healthcare providers can provide various ways to provide information, which can help make more disease-related health knowledge available to patients. Moreover, healthcare workers should also further explore ways to improve the concordance related to reaching agreement between doctors and patients on medical and treatment options.

Objective To investigate the status of communication skills among medical students in order to provide targeted and operational interventions. Methods We designed the questionnaire ‘Questionnaire investigating the status of medical students’ communication skills’ to investigate the status of communication skills of medical students of the West China Clinical College. The sample was extracted by the way of stratified sampling. Results We put out 570 questionnaires and received 548 completed questionnaires. There was a statistical difference between students who came from the city and countryside in terms of communication skills. There was also a statistical difference between students with different backgrounds in communication skills. Conclusion ① Medical students have lots of advantages in interpersonal communication, but there are also lots of defects in their skill set. ② Medical students have been aware of the necessity of learning the basic theories of interpersonal communication to improve the physician-patient relationship in the future. ③ It has become a trend to carry out interpersonal education in medical universities. ④ Medical colleges need to integrate internal and external resources, professional education, moral education, and the construction of campus culture to foster medical students with good interpersonal skills.
